Bolstering your research impact through innovation and entrepreneurship

 

Abstract

Universities face growing political expectations to create societal value through innovation, entrepreneurship, and external collaboration. But what does this mean for individual researchers? In this talk, Maria Theresa Norn will discuss how engagement and entrepreneurship can amplify the impact of your research but also help generate resources for research in the form of new ideas, increased visibility, and additional resources. The talk will include practical tips for how to get started as well as pitfalls to consider.

Bio

Maria Theresa Norn is an Associate Professor in technology entrepreneurship and policy at the Centre for Technology Entrepreneurship at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). She is also affiliated with the Danish Centre for Studies in Research and Research Policy at Aarhus University. Her research focuses on university-industry collaboration, university innovation ecosystems and commercialization of research and technology. Norn also has extensive experience from outside academia, including four years as a policy consultant in the Nordic countries and ten years in the management team of a non-partisan, non-profit think tank on science, innovation and education policy in Denmark. She has a long track record of working with science advice and supporting knowledge translation and exchange between academia, policy and practice.

Action steps to embark on your entrepreneurial journey

 

Abstract

In this talk, Pioneer Center Chief Innovation Officer, Camilla Nørgaard Jensen, PhD, will introduce some tangible, first steps to take if you have entrepreneurial aspirations. One of them being to join the PhD summer school, Young Researcher Entrepreneurship Bootcamp (YREB, 2.5 ECTS), which the Pioneer Center co-hosts each year. Come learn more about the focus of the Entrepreneurship PhD summer school, what previous participants gained from it, and ask any questions you might have. Camilla Nørgaard Jensen

 

Bio

Camilla Nørgaard Jensen, PhD, serves as the Chief Innovation Officer within Digital Tech and AI at DTU Skylab and the Pioneer Centre for Artificial Intelligence. In this role Camilla supports researchers and students to become more innovative and entrepreneurial by leveraging engaging innovation- and design thinking processes that foster an integration of different discipline’s perspectives, resulting in solutions that take the user needs, the technical feasibility, and the business aspects into account. Camilla holds a M.Sc.Eng. from AAU in Industrial Design Engineering and a PhD from Arizona State University focused on how to accelerate the value creation process from creativity, through innovation, to entrepreneurship. She has done consulting with various companies such as LEGO, Bayer, Novo Nordisk, etc.
